| 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day Many countries consider March 8th as International Women's Day. The Day was celebrated for the first time in 1911. The origin lies in New York, U.S.A. where on March 8th 1908 a strike started against the bad working conditions in the textile mills. The slogan "Bread and Roses" became world-famous. Later the celebrations came to be associated with the socialist movement and were not that popular during the cold war. The 1970's saw a revival of this Day. And currently it is celebrated in most countries. Curiously, in Belgium International Women's Day is celebrated on November 11, although there are proposals to change it to March 8th. The coin shows the effigies of the first Belgian female M.D. (I. van Diest) and the first Belgian female Lawyer (M.Popelin). The background shows a Venus sign and their names are in a semicircle under their heads. The insignia of their sciences, the asklepian and the scales are to the left and right respectively. The top of the center shows the Mint and Mintmaster marks as well as the abbreviation "BE" for Belgium, and the year is visible in the lower part. The rim shows the 12 stars.

Possibly: 200 Years of the Finnish National Bank The Bank of Finland is the world's fourth oldest central bank. As Finland passed from Swedish rule to Russian control in 1809, the financial system was overhauled. In 1811, Tsar Alexander I issued a decree to establish the "Waihetus- Laina- ja Depositioni-Contori" ('Exchange, Lending and Deposits Bureau') in the city of Turku. This, the nation's first bank, became the Bank of Finland. The bank was relocated to Helsinki in 1819.
The Bank of Finland took on its role as a central bank towards the end of the 1800s when Finland had set up its own currency and commercial banks had been established. When Finland gained her independence, the Bank of Finland's position as the national central bank was reinforced. The obverse of the coin is not yet made public, but it is widely believed that it will resemble the € 100,- gold coin with this same motiv. The coin is expected out somewhere in October.
